The golden stigma of the crocus flower is absolutely amazing.  How many times have I glanced upon the petals without noticing the beautiful, ruffly centers?
Note to self:  Look for the beauty within the beauty.  See it all.

For the #macromonday mini theme BORDERS;

For the #macromonday mini theme BORDERS;

I was amazed to see the center of the toad lily was bordered on each side by tiny clear beads.  It reminded me a bit of the suction cups on a squid's tentacles.

There are patterns in nature, and sometimes you see those patterns repeating in strange and unexpected places.

I returned to the garden yesterday and attempted to take more pictures of toad lilies.  They are in full bloom now!  Alas, a spider descended from an overhead tree, first into my  hair, then onto my shirt and then down my bra.  I did not see the spider until it went down my shirt, and if not for Luke alerting me, I might never have noticed at all.  Of course, I'm terrified of spiders, so I spent several moments paralyzed in fear as Luke described the spider's movements.

We also saw a snake.  Every day is an adventure 😉

So now, the "toad" lilies that vaguely resemble squid will hereafter make me think of spiders.  It's like a whole zoo in one flower.

for the #MacroMonday mini-theme Fill it up

for the #MacroMonday mini-theme Fill it up
I love to play with light and color.  Yeah, you already knew that…

This is a plastic water bottle, mostly emptied of water.  What remains will often condense on the sides and, in many cases, it creates beautiful patterns of water droplets.

Behind the bottle is one of my favorite props – a string of color-changing LED lights.  This was one of the first LED strings made and it picks RGB colors randomly.  As a result, since the RGB spectrum is 2/3 green and blue, the light string is dominant on the aqua tones.  It creates a uniquely beautiful color palette.  Individual lights can be seen in the water droplets.  The background bokeh spots are distorted into beautiful abstract patterns by the plastic bottle.

So, philosophically, you could say that this "empty" bottle was not so empty after all.  It was filled with air.  The air was filled with evaporated water.  And then I filled the whole thing with color and light.  Surely, there is some message in there somewhere.

This was one of my alternate shots for the "Colorful" category in last season's scavenger hunt.  What can I tell you?  I love playing with color and light.

And since this shot is all about #Bokeh , it's perfect for this week's #MacroMonday Bokeh mini-theme.  Macro Monday is curated by +Sandra Parlow and +Jeff Moreau

This is my Ice Cream Cone shot for the Chrysta Rae Photo Scavenger Hunt.  I used a string of LED lights, but I didn't expect them to make such vivid beams of color down the sides of the cone.  It ended up looking like an underground tunnel from Candy Land 🙂

Since today's #MacroMonday sub-theme is Sweet Tooth, I thought this would be a good fit.  Macro Monday is curated by +Sandra Parlow and +Jeff Moreau
