My entry for the "PASTEL" category of the 22nd Round of the G+ Photography…

My entry for the "PASTEL" category of the 22nd Round of the G+ Photography Scavenger Hunt.

By now, you may have noticed that all of my entries are set against a plain white background. There is a reason for this. I was in a hurry.

I wasn't sure if I'd do any shots at all. Then I had one idea, then another… and it was great to have something fun to think about over such a dreary winter. Once I set up the table, backdrop, and lights, it was fairly easy to go from one image to the next. I think I did my 5 images in 5 evenings, using only what I had around the house. And I've had a lot of fun, even though I didn't have a lot of time.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank +William Banik. A little over 2 years ago, I posted a photo of a sculpture I had made, using the backdrop I always used: fabric. I've spent my life around fabric. My mom made draperies. I worked in fashion. If you want to do something, do it with fabric. Alas, my fabric backdrops looked wrinkly and awful because I never took the time to iron them. Then, +William Banik kindly shared a better way. Instead of using fabric, use a piece of white poster board or presentation board like you get from Michaels.

That was a game-changing piece of advice for me. It is much faster, easier, and yields beautiful results. Thank you, William, for helping me to create better photographs, even when I'm in a hurry 🙂

  1. I did the same thing – on my dining table, in front of a big sheet of white posterboard so I could easily select out the subjects and composite them over a separately shot background – for Round 15. It saved me a lot of work on what was already a labor-intensive task I'd set for myself.

  2. +Pat Kight that does sound like a great time-saver for a composite shot. Hard to believe how many scavenger hunts there have been over the years. 15 seems like just yesterday!

  3. Fragrance series play. Lock it forever… Let its beauty always show the best sight.
